If you are gonna pull the EGR, pull the TB and elbow and clean those too - especially the 2 little EGR ports in the elbow.

Consider an intake leak as probable, do a smoke test ?

I've sprayed carb cleaner and that b12 chemtool by the intake and were the plugs run along and never got a change in idle I've done that numerous times to try to find a leak with no luck

I know it means a lean condition but I can't seem to figure out y, the money and resources ain't there right now, every time I look for leaks i never find any and I've checked numerous times and came up with nothing, I suspect the maf could be off but it's just a guess

I pulled the maf today cause I got a maf from a different f150 with the 4.6 now the big difference I noticed was the one that was in my truck had like an aluminum housing and the other was plastic, the one in my truck said japan on the housing and the part numbers are f50f-12b579-aa , I didn't get the numbers off the other one cause I put that one in my truck, but when I look up the part numbers on the old maf they say for a mustang? What gives? I believe this old maf was replaced and is the wrong maf for this truck anyone have any info?

for anyone who wants to learn: if the MAF is a different size then it needs a re-tune, which according to what you post you don't have the funds to fix it the right way

yet you can waste money on ignorance and bliss

having an aftermarket MAF is something that would've been nice to know a while ago

I did listen, I replaced the plugs/wires, like I was told, I cleaned throttle body and egr holes or whatever, dpfe was clogged badly so I replaced that, and the maf sensor I got for free pretty much, it still pings with this maf I didn't reset the computer and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to or not when I replaced the maf

By the time you get done shotgunning parts at the poor thing, you could have paid for a professional computer-aided diagnosis.

The only other thing that I have to replace is the egr valve itself but as far as I've gotten with this and the things I have done I don't think anything is gonna help, so far it's been pinging even with the octane plug removed and running 89 octane, I can have ford reflash ecu for $60 that might be a gamble so idk

I'll admit that I did not read all of the pages, so I may have missed something.....but in MY experience....it's just a characteristic of a well used 4.6. My 98 has a real **** of a detonation under a load....and almost not existant on v-power. Got a new set of plugs to drop in this week, but I doubt it'll completely fix the prob.....until I can atleast get a tuner ( and with almost 300k...hopefully a VOLUNTARY rebuild..lol)
My 96 gt was bad about detonation....but on v-power and a tune, it was gone. Seems to me like it's just a norm for the 4.6.

U talkin like an edge tuner or a custom tune for the computer, yea the detonation has definantly been a battle, on v power it's not so bad but it's expensive to run it, just still don't understand I mean it shouldn't ping but I've been in a 99 Chevy 1500 an a dodge half ton and they both pinged just like mine so idk
