HELP !! Cooling system Flush 2001 SCREW

Good morning All,

A few years back I found a thread with detailed pics and instructions on how to flush my cooling system ( '01 Screw 5.4 ). I've searched high and low and cant find this thread. Does anyone have it or can someone post a link to the thread. Need to do a flush and thermostat change this coming weekend.

btw - whomever decided to make a forum for F-150's - you are a god !! - I have found tons and I do mean ton's of helpful info on this over the years.

Thanks !

I have one piece of advice. DON"T use a coolant flush unless you are POSITIVE it doesn't have corrosive (acid) cleaner in it. It will eat your radiator out before your eyes!

There should be two block drain plugs on either side of your engine, and the pet**** of your radiator. Stick your water hose in the overflow tank and open these three plugs. The water will flush out any junk, rust whatever. You can add some coolant flush but I have little experience with it. After that start adding distilled water and coolant. I've always used well water, but others will say used distilled water.

Antifreeze / Water

60 / 40 roughly

You would be better off testing it to know for sure. Figure what temp you are comfortable with. I like mine to be good to -40 degrees minimum. I can't remember the last time it got that cold here but it has come close and better safe than sorry.
