recommended motor oil
recommended motor oil
Hey guys i was just wondering what motor oil is good for my truck, and my trucks motor has 100,000 already so i know i have to use fully synthetic oil but didn't kno wat weight is good,n i live in las vegas so later in the summer it will get hot thank u guys
You can also use 5w30 since you have a 2001. That is what I use on my 2003 but I would not use any thicker oil than that. I tried a few other good quality filters but the Motorcraft seems to work best for the price.
X4, - It's the manufactures recommended oil for 97+
Early on, it was 5w 30. Ford changed the spec for all model years to 5w 20 as it netted better mpgs.
They changed the trans spec as well..

Careful, if your thinking about switching to full synthetic. It's good stuff, but the problem with that and high mileage vehicles is that it may free up an abundance of sludge in the motor. So much so, it can plug the pick-up screen in the pan.
I've seen that occur once. Woman had a Ford Windstar w/60,000 miles. Very rarely had the oil changed in the vehicle. Changed the oil and went w/full syn. 2000 miles later the engine blew. Further investigation revealed a sludge packed pick-up screen.
Know what she said ? "That does it!, I'll never have the oil changed again!"

Right, well it use to be that way, and for quite awhile. According to engineering, that's no longer the case. That was changed in 1998. In 1998 gaskets and synthetics where improved to a point in which that adverse effect was know longer an issue. Before that time it was a large problem. With transmissions, head, cam and valve cover gaskets. It makes sense as well, IMO anyway. 10th gene's don't really leak from the gaskets unless there's a casting/machining flaw.
Blue, word on the street is what J says is true, the once caused leaks are no more. (your mileage may vary) Whereas some engines used to leak more oil than they ever used, the leaks are mostly a thing of the past. (should be anyway) My BIL commented a couple of days ago that when he changed the oil in the '05 Camry that they bought new (now has about 200K mi.) there was not a single drop of oil leakage, bone dry. Thank God, used to be you had oil on your driveway with an American car a couple or three years old.

Penzzoil ultra synth or royal purple (what ever the higher grade synth is called for rp cant remember) 5w 30 but after seeing people saying ford switched to 5 20 I guess thats what I should be using now? And usually the highest grade bosch or fram filter
If you aren't having any issues with 5w30, just keep using it.
