4.6 performance question

4.6 performance question

I am new to the forum and did some searching but unable to find a direct answer to a few questions.the truck is a 1998 ford 150 4.6 5 speed 4x4
1.what is the best msd??
2.is the edge evo good on a 5 speed??
3.i ordered 4in lift 20s with 35x12.50 grapplers.would 4.10 or 4.56 be my best option???

1. MSD? You talking about coil packs? Motorcraft plugs, wires, and coil packs are best.

2. The Edge EVO should not be used on any 97-03 trucks due to bad cables.

3. 4.56's. You have to correct the speedo/odo with a VSS gear, not a programmer.

4.88's with that gutless ol' 4.6 in there


and no the POS edge "evo" is not good, unless it's been custom tuned by PHP for your truck, and since they don't mess with the ones with the junk cables, good luck

4.56's are fine with only 35's. 4.88's are too steep with a manual transmission with a 0.8:1 overdrive ratio. Automatics have 0.7:1 overdrive.

I have been reading a few forums and they was talking about msd ignition on theirs...ill be ordering my 4.56s and looking for this vss thingy lol

So theres no programmer/tuner out there that would benefit my truck?

Sure there are - but not an Edge Evo.

MSD "ignition" is a waste. The stock setup is as good as any unless you are highly modified, possibly with a supercharger. The M5OD won't hold up to much more power than stock.
