Starting Line techniques
HI!... BEARINTEX : On the street I usually launch mine around 1000rpm to 1100rpm. At the drag strip I brake torque it to about 2000rpm and I have had a best 60ft of 2.0. Not bad for a "NON" LIGHTNING!

OK, what do you racers out there use to get the quickest hole shot? This is my first automatic. In the manuals I've raced before, it was simply dump the clutch at the highest RPM that didn't completely smoke the tires. I assume it involves powerbraking to an extent.
Thanks in advance

I've tried brake torquing a few times and it makes some god aweful noises from the drive train, is that normal for it? I figured the torque converter would handle most of the pressure being put on from the engine while holding the brakes...

First of all, go around the water. You might want to back up after you straighten up to be sure you have plenty of room. Hold the brake just hard enough to keep the truck from moving forward and bring the rpm up to about 4000. Watch your rear view mirror to see when smoke comes from the tires. Release the brake slowly and let the truck move forward to completely clean the tires. Now you are ready to stage. Hold the brake once again but very hard this time and brake stall to about 1500 rpm with the stock converter. If you don't have time to look at the tach, just bring the throttle up enough to see the front of the truck torque up. This allows you to leave without braking the tires loose. If you leave from an idle it does hit harder and more likely to break traction. With enough many mods you will have to get sticky tires or your radials will brake loose. When you see the last yellow, hit the throttle full and remove brake at the same time.
