techron additive, how often?

I've been adding a bottle of techron fuel system cleaner to my gas tank with each oil change, usually around 3500 miles. Any issues with this? Is this overkill?

If you use the "fuel system cleaner" I wouldn't say that was excessive at all, could even use it a little more often than that. If you use "Techron Concentrate", (that stuff is really concentrated) I would say it didn't need to be done that often. Stealth is right, if you use any of the fuel that has Techron as an additive (Chevron, Texaco, etc.) you shouldn't ever have to use it as a supplement, but as an additive at the tank farm you'd need to use that fuel most all of the time because it is in such low concentration. Outstanding product though.

Depending on what version of techron you're using.....once an oil change is probably good enough if you're using the concentrate....

I agree with 58 & 88.

I think Chevron has 3 products out that I have seen.
1. Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus-->Add before every oil Change.
2. Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner-->Add with every fill up.
3. Chevron Pro-Gard Fuel Injector Cleaner-->Add with every fill up.

a. I figure Pro-Gard is a weaker concentration then 1 & 2. Really see no reason to use it.

Some owners think adding a double dose will clean much better? Maybe? but you want these chemicals to clean slow. Not dislodge large pieces of carbon and have it traveling through your motor . You want these chemicals slowly dissolving this carbon in very small portions. I would not recommend any type of Shock Treatment!

Also something to think about! Adding these additives before long trips on the interstate really does not do alot of good! These chemicals work the best when they are allowed to soak and slowly dissolve. But I myself am guilty of keeping either Techron or Redline SI-1 in our tanks at all time. Normally only adding 6oz per tank.
