Odd problems with starting
Hi there,
Could really use some help.
I drove my truck down to a body shop to have the door hinges and panels replaced. After about a week I got an email with an updated estimate along with a mention that the truck needs a new battery. I refused the battery and told them I'd just jump it when I got back.
When I returned, the shop jumped the truck for me. They told me it was VERY low on fuel, so I drove it to the gas station. It died there, but the tank was full (topped off with $20 when I got there).... the fuel indicator was wrong. (Still below E when I drove off) Also, the compass and radio aren't working. The shop also mentioned there was a problem with the reverse lights. I could not and cannot get the truck started with another vehicle. They brought out some machine they plugged in and hooked to the battery and even with that it took a long time to get it to go. I went and bought it a new battery and replaced it. Truck still won't start and the fuel indicator says the truck is low (once again, I am 100% certain that the tank if full). Even with the new battery I tried to jump the truck with another vehicle with no luck. When we got the truck running after the gas station it ran great other than the fuel indicator, compass, and radio didn't work. Also, dome lights aren't working when I open the doors but are when I press them.
Ideas?

Just clicks? If it makes a click and then nothing starter is junk.
Or when you had it jump started instead of a new battery installed you fried the alternator trying to recharge the battery and provide the truck with power and the 2nd battery is now dead from no alternator

I think the alternator is fine, but I will look into the starter tomorrow morning. The compass, radio, and fuel gauge not working is tripping me out. That's why I was suspecting some electrical component.
