first experience with service
Took my f150 (1200 miles) to have some problems checked out. Here are the results:
1. Bad rattle from dash center...FIX-replaced clip on something...RESULT- no more rattle.
2. tick tick from drivers side wheel...FIX-replaced rear leaf spring bushings...RESULT- still tick tick from right front wheel, they also left off the clip that was wrapped around the leaf spring.
3. rough idle, dieseling sound on cold starts...FIX-reprogram the computer (HUH?) and adjust idle...RESULT-engine still sounds the same but no more rough idle.
Added Bonus: on the drive home I noticed a drip sound comming from dash area at regular intervals...after some investigation, it appears that the AC-compressor is now kicking on and off constantly about every 15-30 seconds, i now this is new because the drip sound is too annoying not to have noticed before.
I called my service advisor, for a what's up with that. He appologized and asked when I could bring it back in for the leaf spring clip and another try at the tick tick, and a first look at the new drip sound.
Oh Boy, another excuse to take some sick leave.
My previous truck (95 F150 XLT SC 5.0L) with 80,000 miles never saw the inside of a service department. Oh, I just read the posts about door cracks, I will look tomorrow.

Rodman, don't waste your time looking for door cracks. You don't have them, (yet). If the door of an F150 was never opened and shut it would never crack. The crack is caused by use and you simply haven't had your truck long enough.

Well mine is going on the rack next thursday to get the tranny leak fixed.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Damn I thought I was doing bad at 3,300 miles.
Maybe I should have kept my Nissan Truck.
106,000 miles and never in the shop except for brakes, battery, belts, oil change, spark plugs, tires, etc.
It even had the original hoses and clutch when I sold it.

54RegCab: don't worry about it, your Ford is twice the truck your Nissan was. I used to have a 4-Runner and I know my Ford is
Rodman: since your computer was reprogramed, make sure you look under the hood for a sticker from Ford stating that!! There are codes on that sticker that you will need if you ever decide to get the Superchip! By the way, Ford reprogramed my computer around 2000 miles and didn't tell me!! I found the sticker instead!!

Tina, what exactly could they have changed with the computer? The service advisor seem to be clueless as to what all the jargon on the work order meant. He said something about reprogramming the PCM. Could this reprogramming also affect performance? ie. do i still have 260 hp, 345 lb-ft torque?
thanks

My Explorer started stalling randomly so I took it in and requested the updated program for the computer that I read about on the net. It runs like a totally different truck now, what a difference!
AS far as my F-150, the only trip so far was to have the alignment checked. They found no problem. It still pulled to the right so I checked tire pressure and one was a few pounds low. Other than that no problems. I am surprised at how well my truck is built (Norfolk plant) not one rattle or squeak. Bravo for Ford on my Explorer, my F-150 and my stpedads flawless Lariat (also Norfolk plant).

I am taking my Bucs front license plate off until they dump Trent Dilfer
again!

You can still have door cracks. I've seen 99's with door cracks already!!!
