Blown spark plug.

I bought a beautiful 2003 Lightning SVT last year and about a month ago I was driving down the highway and it spit out a spark plug.People said to use a heli-coil,but Fords say that they have the proper tool to fix it at a price of 500$.After further research, this is a common problem in the 5.4l.so check and tighten your spark plugs and although they have a class action suit against Ford for this problem Ford admits an engine defect but won't step up to fix it.So now here sits a beautiful truck that I paid cash for is just sitting there because I don't know if I'll ever have a grand to fix it,pity.

Doesn't cost that much if you do it yourself. Contact memebr on here by the name of Galaxy, he rents the Timesert kit. That is the best repair. Do not use heli-coil, it won't last.

Timesert.

Heli coil will eventually work it's way out in time. If it were me, Id start putting away a few bucks to do a good once over on everything. Change the plugs, torque them correctly so this is not an issue again. Fuel filter, fluids etc...
It's something I always do when buying a used vehicle.

I think all he wanted to do was vent in a few threads. He never responded to any answers or help.

I wasn't venting, there's nothing I can do,I'm just in a bad spot right now, paid cash last summer ,never a problem, now I couldn't even sell it without taking a major hit.I was trying to find out was what people who have experienced this have done,I'm thinking the 50$ helicoil was a waste,Just looking for a cheap fix,but I knew getting into this nothing would be cheap, thanks for everyones input.mike

Contact member "Galaxy" via private message, he rents Timesert kits. There is no cheaper way to fix it right.

I bought a timesert kit with 4 inserts and did it myself for under $200 and now I have the kit and inserts to do 3 more if it ever happens again. It's EASY!

Anyone have a link on where to buy the kit? My brother's girlfriend has an '01 4.6L F150 and it, I believe, also has this issue.

I agree it's a pity that poor truck fell into the hands of a fool, who if he had conducted proper research would know that a simple task of properly torquing the sparkplugs eliminates the "blown spark plug" "issue"

I agree.

Can't believe he brought up the class action suit. He had to summon Fred Flintstones spirit for that info...

Some tools couldn't fix a bologna sandwich....Plain!

A fine truck is now sitting. He's absolutely right, that is indeed a pity.

Blow outs are only a major problem for the uninformed. They can be repaired in an HOUR. It is super easy..
