I was at a customers house one day replacing the timing belt on his 2.3L Ranger. All I had left to do was fill it with oil, and the customer, trying to be helpful, offered to do that for me while I packed up my tools. After the first quart, he mentioned to me that it wouldn't take any more oil. It was at this point I discovered he was putting the oil into the power steering reservoir. The only reason it took a quart was because it had to be removed to replace the timing belt, and I had drained some of the fluid out so as not to make a mess. So much for that.

I have heard some guys talking about adding an extra quart just for better cooling etc. It may not be a very good idea.
If the bottom of your crankshaft begins to strike the oil at the bottom of the pan it begans to whip air into the oil - kinda like a blender. Once a bunch of air gets whipped into the oil it gets frothy, the oil pump doesn't pump the proper amount of oil, and you may start getting starved or hot bearings. Before you decide to run a few extra quarts of oil, you should know how close the level is to the crank. I think most folks know this but maybe it will same someone a motor someday.

I have an '89 chevy cavalier and there is no separate oil filler and dipstick. They are one and the same - unscrew the cap with the dipstick and pull it out. Sometimes you do fill down the dipstick tube!
If you want to blow that sucker up, I live in Joshua, bring it over, I'll take my Nitrous kit, bootleg it into your air box jetted for 200 horses, and run it on watered down 87 octane, BOOM in 12 seconds, pull the hose and jet, no more evidence.
