Post 1999 or 2000 Silverado 1500 454 SS?

I seen a 1999-2000 Silverado in a parking lot and on the back, where the Z71 sticker goes, it says 454 SS in Z71 style writing. Do they put the 454 in the 1999-2000 Silverados?

I don't know if they are putting 454's in the new Chevy's, but have you seen the 1/4 mile times of the new SS compared to the lightning? The new lightning runs 1/4 mile times .5 - .7 seconds faster than the SS! That's a lazy 395 hp!

Look at the newest issue of "Truckin", they have some special vehicles like the Silverado SS in it. You can buy these through the dealer but they are not production made...yet. The SS is supposed to become a production vehicle like the Lightening. With that said it had posted times of 15.7 in the quarter, at least .5 slower than the Lightening. And it was the fastest vehicle listed which sad to say included an Expidition but it was nice looking.

Future mods: underdrive pulleys,4" lift, 16.5 wheels with 33's,ram air hood, and someday a supercharger.

Fast: Chevy put the 454 in the SS trucks from 1990-1993. They still put the 454vortec in the 2500-3500 C/K series. I've heard rumors of a new Silverado for 2002 that has a 5.3l and a blower. like the Lightning has.... But it will be called a Silverado SS. I guess

This was a 1999 Bodystyle type 1500 Silverado, and it said 454 SS. I dont know if it is a conversion of what.

Cool

It's still amazes me that Ford can put an engine like a 5.4 in a truck, and do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. While it takes Chevy a huge 454 to come close to Fords numbers. That's got to be saying something!

wolverin704,
I bought that issue of Truckin' and read the article "chevy vs ford vs dodge". Everything but the F150 had a supercharger in it and it still did better than some of the others. I was shocked to see the Corvette Silverado (aka: Searing Silverado) did not perform very well. And how about the Kenne Belle Signature Series Expedition with 500HP?!

fordby4:

Most GM truck owners don't buy a truck to race. I will give you that the 5.4l is a "quicker", but not "faster" truck. Quicker =takeoff speed. Faster=Top end, ending speed. However, this benefit does not appeal to most GM truck buyers. No bashing intended here. Just an explanation. GM has always been good about having plenty of engine options for all their trucks. The 454 in the trucks was designed for what trucks were originally purchased for....work, not racing.

GM has not invested as much into the trucks for racing or sport as Ford. However, they have in the sports cars where GM has always been a winner. My opinion is that Ford should invest more into the mustang than the trucks. The mustang has never been able to hang with the GM vette.

Take care.

I don't think the Mustang was ever suppose "to hang" with the vette. It's compition is/was the camaro (although it hasn't been hanging with that either for years!).

If you look at the milliniaum addition of the Guiness Book Of World Records(the latest addition), you'll see under the automotive section that FORD holds the worlds 0-60 record. 3.007 seconds! There's not a Chevy car that comes close(Since you brought up cars)

Ford Evolution. RS7000 I believe. It's also in the previous two volumes that I've looked through.

Cool

I read an article saying that some dealers are adding some superficial modifications (louder exhaust, ground effects, etc) slapping an SS emblem on it and a "premium" for the modifications and selling it as some kind of "sport" package. Who ever said a Shovie owner was real bright anyway? http://www.454ss.com/1999SS.asp
