Probably a Ridiculous Swap? A 2010 4.6 and 4R70E into a 2001 Supercab

So my 4.6L Romeo in my 2001 F150 Supercab is just about toast with 210,000 miles. I just found a 4.6 from a 2010 F150 with what I believe is a 4R70E with the PCM and harness for an incredibly low price. Am I stupid for thinking this could possibly work without a whole lot of headaches and electrical nightmares?

with the effort and cost involved, you're better off doing a coyote 5.0 / 6 speed auto swap

or swap in a 2 valve 5.4 or a 2 valve 6.8

Assuming that it is a 2v 4.6 with a 4R70, it might not be that bad. It's the 3v 4.6 with 6R80 that's not worth it.

It is a 2v 4.6. I'm fairly confident the motor would work fine, likely even using the original pcm. I'm just not so sure about using the 2010 transmission and pcm and harness, as I'm not sure what I would have to do with the security system and ignition and all that stuff.

I thought about swapping in a 5.4, but I really like the mileage I got out if the 4.6 as I sometimes drive 1,000 miles a week, and i haven't been able to find a 5.4 for a reasonable price.

Actually, I need to correct myself, the 2010 trans that comes with the motor is a 4r75e, not a 4r70e.

It would be an easy swap if you just did the engine. The trans will open up a big can of worms.

That's my thought. I just found a rebuilt 4r70w for a good price, so I may just sell the 4r75e and go that route, as I'd like to replace the tranny as long as I have the motor out.

You would probably want to use your engines intake for the sake of simplicity. Then the oil pan might have changed along with the drive belts and oil filter stuff. other then that it should be a breeze..

Well I bought the 2010 motor and tranny as a package, and I'm pulling my old motor today. As far as just using the motor with my oem intake, it looks like it won't be a problem, however, what if I decided to use the complete package, motor, tranny, harness, and ecu? Is there a way to disable the PATS? Will my gauges even work? Disaster waiting to happen?

Can of worms. It would ne worth it to just have your trucks transmission overhauled. did you get the complete wiring harness from the doner? you would have to swap that and then you might have to have custom drive shafts made.. are the mounts for the trans in the same place?.. the 10 has drive by wire throttle you would have to have that So you would need to jettison the stock throttle linkage and work up the throttle.. Bunch of stuff.

Easy swap, - just use your the original parts on top.
_______

Trans, - couldn't tell yuh.

BTW- MPG's for 4six and 5four are the same or VERY close to it. Just don't let that be a deciding factor. With the 5four, it takes much less effort to move that truck. Also, with a 5four, you have more power on demand; -reason for the higher residual value. Yes, if you use that power, the 5four likes the fuel, but driven normally and/or empty they are the same as far as mileage.

Shoot, my 5four did better with mpg's than my daughters 4two.

Good Luck.
