Coils

I have an 04 5.4 (newer style ) fx4 . I changed the plugs about 40,000 kilometers ago . I am having the same issue I had before changing the plugs out . Shes missing under load . The coils have not been replaced ever . Truck has 200,000 kms . What I am wondering is, ford dealership or any parts store here in Atlantic Canada wants between 65-80 $ for each coil ..... I look on eBay and I find 8 coils for under 100$ . Has anyone ever run these cheap coils on their truck ? I'm thinking even if they only last 50,000 , I could change them out 4-5 times before hitting the 500 $ that the dealership wants . Any input would be great!

People have had mixed results with the Ebay coils - but for the price it's worth a try. Buy from a seller that offers a warranty and get a V10 set so you have a couple spares. The 5.4 3 valve takes DG511.

Be sure and use dielectric grease on the boots when installing. As for you current miss, it could be that the old boots needed to be replaced when the plugs were done. Also, the dielectric grease should have been used then as well. Cracked boots can cause a miss.

Haven't seen any Visteon DG511's in a while, just DG508's.

Oh yea? They finally running out of them? That's to bad.

Curious how many have run them around here without a problem... ? Still,- a great deal for about 180 for a set. IF you can find them that is...

Hey guys, what does "oem scratch motorcraft" mean? I found some coils online that are described that way. Thanks

Supposedly, they are OEM coils that have had the Motorcraft ID's scratched off.

I still have a couple extra Global coils in their boxes, -haven't had to use them yet. I installed this set back in 08.

Might grab a set of Visteon's (Motorcraft) before the next tune up, -since they can be had cheap. - Retire the Globals, or have them on standby, -just in case.
