06 F150 4.6 Cam

Hey guys I was wondering if I could get some help with cams in the 4.6 v8. Ive been wanting to do it for a while but i cant seem to find anywhere to get one specifically for it. Im not expecting to get a whole lot of HP out of the 4.6 but a little more would be nice also i like the nice lope sound. I use the truck mostly as a daily driver but i do pull a little bit every now and then and get off into the mud on occasions. Any done this? Sorry if its in another thread but i couldnt find it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You need torque, not horsepower. Cams won't help with that. What you need to do is regear it and get some custom tunes for that programmer.

Some comp cam grinds claim to improve torque.

Yea i know torque is definitely before horsepower. Im really not expecting to get a whole lot more out of the smaller v8. I have just always loved that famous cammed out lope sound lol. Thanks for the help guys!

Take a look at Comp Cams XE268H cam set for the 4.6. It will give you the "cam" idle yet allow you to run the stock tune or you can chip it. It also allows for you to run the A/C around town and no special stall converter required. For a general cam install, it's about the best one out there for the 4.6. If and when I rebuild my 4.6, it'll get a set of 268 cams. It will give you about 20 RWHP with stock tune and gears/tires. Expect fuel mileage to drop though. Kinda hard to drive it sanely.
Someone on here has a vid with sound of these cams installed in a 97 as I remember. Might wanna do a search for the cams here.
