2007 F150 w/65000 Dealer says needs new engine!
Said I needed a long block aka new engine and it was a "bad" cylinder. Looking at $7500 "give or take" the service manager said.
Your "NEW" engine is gonna be someone elses broken, burned up, worn out, destroyed engine, fixed up for you by some guy making $10. an hour. It'll have a fancy name,"Remanufactured", but it's still someone elses busted , broken junk because Ford doesn't sell new engines, period! They may say "you need a new engine", but it's still repaired junk. Don't let 'em blow smoke up your tailpipe and try and tell you any different!
Not sure what my codes were but on my last truck, a 2005 4.2L, all of a sudden after only sitting for a day I started the engine and it shook real bad just like you describe. Sounded like hell then would stall. Turned out to be the mass airflow sensor. Ended up getting it fixed and trading it in for a new truck.
You might be dealing with a couple rookies at the dealer. Get a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

2008 f150 dealer says new engine???
Hi I am going through the same problem I was pulling a small boat from up north to fl for the winter on my 2008 f150 4.6 with 62,000 miles on it when I got the code for misfire on number three. I changed the coil and pulled the plug at a local auto store to try and get back on the road. When I pulled the plug it was fried and part of the arch was missing. I changed the plug and it still ran like crap...no smoke no noise just missing..when I got to Fl I brought it to the dealer he said I need a new engine. I did a compression test before I brought it there and it was 30 psi...they did a test and said it had 0.. Hard to believe it lost the rest of compression from my house to the dealer...they say the cylinder is shot and need a new engine after only a compression test and finding one low cylinder??.. I think the piece of plug damaged the exhaust vale because when you put your hand on the exhaust pipe when it's running it will suck your hand to the exhaust every few seconds...bringing it to a different shop for another opinion Monday....please let me know any thoughts on this...thank you!!!
Ask the shop to borescope that cylinder. At the very least, that head is going to have to come off. The dealer just doesn't want to mess with rebuilding it, they would rather R&R the engine.
First off, I really hate it when the OP doesn't update...
Does this apply to the cracked rods? Are there wrist pin bushings and oversize OD bearings available?
