Exclamation 4.6L design flaw?

This time last year the #3 spark plug went in my engine. A few days later, #2 went. Shortly after that, I replaced all the plugs and put new wires on (Magnecor). Just a couple days ago, the #3 plug went again, and it turns out that a hole had burnt right thru the same wire. When the plug was taken out, it was corroded and wet from moisture/water getting in there. If you look at where the plugs sit on the engine block, you can see there is no place for water to go if it should get in there. My mechanic also said that the 4.6's and 5.4's were notorious for having this problem, but I've never seen or heard anything like it here on this board, or anywhere else. Has anybody out there seen/heard of this happening before?

I've heard this about the 3.8l engines from Ford, but not the 4.6. I'ts possible that the head gasket has started to corrod and water is seeping through.

I know what you are talking about. My truck had a tune up done right before I bought it and they replaced the plugs (dealer). About 10000 miles later I had a misfire on the #4 cyl. DIdn't know it was this simple at first so I took it to a dealer and they replaced all the plugs which fixed the problem. Once home we changed out the wires and I noticed the design flaw and what had cuased my problem. The dealer had power washed the engine and then put the truck on the lot. If water gets down around the plug wires and if the plug wires have worked loose or installed incorrectly ( they are beveled and should sit tight only one way) you will have problems.

yes, any water that gets in the spark plug holes will enventually turn into steam on pop the boot off the plug. If you have a rough idle, FIRST thing that you should check.

I have changed plugs twice now on my rig. It is about time for new plug wires as after the second swap, 1 boot would not stay on the plug! I finally pounded it down and then it dried on the plug, so things are fine until I touch them.

I assume that good aftermarket wires will grip better on the plugs. just be cautious washing the motor.
