Seafoam? Should I try it?

I was thinking about running some kind of chemical through my engine before and/or after I change my oil to clean it up a bit. I am thinking about Seafoam but I have never used it and I don't want to put something in my engine that could be harmful or is a waste of money. If you think Seafoam is bad, please tell me what you would recommend.
-Was also thinking about Zmax.

Thanks in advance!

Don't put anything in the crank case other than oil.

It's that simple.

I used Seafoam before oil changes in my diesel. It cleaned very well. In fact, the following oil remained clean looking longer. In a gasser, I would use it maybe once a year. Just let it idle, do not drive with it in the crankcase.

OP, do a search for seafoam, and you'll find all the info you need about it. In short, I'd stay away.

A Shelby commercial is what got me thinking about Zmax....still a great man.
-Anyway, what other engine treatment products should I consider, if there are any good ones?

In short, no.
I did use Seafoam to clean, but not as an additive, most oils today have everything one needs.

I have only used 1 oil additive and have used it for 13yrs... It's a mild cleaner and cleans slowly... It will not fix an engine full of sludge due too neglect.

If you have an enemy, put it in his truck instead, keep it far away from yours!

What makes you think it needs cleaning up? If it's SLUDGED, then do an AutoRX treatment, otherwise just change the oil.

Woooooowwwww….amazing! The proof right there of the power in advertising! Don't get me wrong now, Carroll Shelby is a great man, living legend, and a personal hero, but that just goes to show ya! Still to this day I can't believe hie made those commercials for that stuff.

Usually those who run seafoam thru the booster hose end up tuning the motor. I can't find a fault with running a bottle of Techron thru the gas tank a month. It will clean out carbon and injectors to help on those long city mile rigs. If you run hard thru the rain it will do somewhat the same thing.

Ok, thanks for the feedback everyone, I was just curious of what others thought about it. I don't think my engine had alot of sludge buildup, but I was just wondering if it was something worth trying to help keep my engine clean. I was not planning on using it as an additive, I head that I should use it just BEFORE I change my oil. It sounds like I will be avoiding it! Thanks again
