Question Qualitiy Fuel in Canada?

While Mike T and others have shared their experience about US gas quality, most of the brands mentioned are not available in Canada.
Up here we have Shell, Esso, PetroCanada, Sunoco and several off brands. I have heard good things about Sunoco gas from alot of people, so thats what I try to use.
Does any other fellow Canuck have anything to share on this, have you noticed a difference between one brand of gas and another, or between grades?

notirT,

I stay away from Petro Canada. The onlky thing I buy from them is their Engine Shampoo, it doesn't leave an oily smell. Sunoco is a good gas so is Pioneer or Canadian Tire. I have instructed my wife to use Canadian Tire in her 99 Explorer. If you pay cash you get Canadian Tire money back. With my 00 F-150 I will use Pioneer or Sunoco. They seem to be the only stations that have 93+ Octane. Esso used to have 93 but here in Windsor they went back to 92. If you are only using 87 go for the cheapest price you can find but find a station that has a high volume.

Every Pioneer gas station I've been to told me that they get the same gas as Sunoco
stations do. Unfortunatly I don't pass many Pioneer stations. I agree with what you get at Canadian Tire (cheaper gas+CT bucks) but is it really good quality gas?

Cool

I live on Vancouver Island. We have a smaller choice of stations. Payless (were you DONT) is same as Shell, which I use.
I wont use Exxon (Imp. Oil), because of Valdez "thing", Texaco ( I think), Mohawk - with wheat in the gas, Chevron, & of course Petro Can.
I look for best price - NOT AVAILABLE - $.64 per liter!!!!
I have tried most when hauling thru USA, I look mostly for BP, or Texaco.
No mods, so I only use 87. No problems I am aware of.

I use Pioneer or Sunoco. I like Pioneer because they offer a blend of premium and regular(89 octane) which my truck likes. I get 1 to 2 mpg improvement with it over 87 but I see no further improvement if I step up to to 91 octane. My performance (low end spunk on a 4.2 ) noticeably declines with Shell but I don't know why.

Woww all these Canucks on the same post!!
Windsor, Vancouver, all talking gas. Maybe one day in this country of ours, fuel companies will compete for customers instead of colluding on gas prices.

Hi fellow Canucks!
Here are my 2c. I live in Fort McMurray, AB; the Oil Sands capital of the world. Sunoco's parent company SUNCOR Engergy is mining oil sand here and they also produce synthetic crude oil for there refinery in Sarnia, ON as well as a lot of other refineries (e.g. Shell in Fort Sask. AB). This synthetic crude oil is very low in sulpher and is therefor very good for producing low sulpher gas. Two weeks ago CTV had a test done on gas stations in the Edmonton area and they found that Shell gas usning SUNCOR's oil had the best gas. I think second best was MOWHAK.
