Question 5.4L INTECH V8

I had no idea the Lincoln navigator had the 5.4L. The reargate said INTECH V8.
The window sticker said 5.4L INTECH V8 300HP. Is this just news to me or is this a new line of engines?
I wonder how that would be in say a short bed 4x2 F Series?
Anyhow, real nice truck, but can you say sticker shock? $48,950!!!?

Dear Fast Ford,

The 300 hp 5.4 in the 1999 & later Navigator is a 5.4 version of the DOHC 4.6 that came in the Lincoln Mark 8 from 1993 to 1998. It's a grea t engine, and I'd love to have it in the 5.4 size! It only became available starting with the 1999 model year for the Navigator. As heavy as that vehicle is, it needs it!

Sign me up! I'll take one in my next F-150. Three-hundred ponies under the hood would be awesome - even in my 4x4.

It is just a dual overhead cam version of the regular 5.4 motors. All Navigators come with the 5.4 as a standard feature but you can get the dohc as an option.

I would like 300 horse too. Change the current 5.4 into the 300 horse version, and put the 240 horse 4.6l into the trucks also, and we'll be set.

I have a 99 Navigator with the 300HP 32v engine. I also have an Expedition with the 5.4 SOHC version so comparisons are easy. Both get off the line quickly enough however the Navigator doesn't stop pulling hard until you let off the pedal. This extra power is most noticable/appreciated when entering freeways where I can out accelerate most cars. 0-60 in 8.5 sec. On the plus side the 32v gas mileage is the same as on the 16v but on the downside it takes premium fuel which is quite a bit more expensive.

According to one source the 32v engine will be offered in the 2003 Expedition. I also heard that Ford will be bumping the HP to 325 in the Navigator at the same time. I have to believe they will offer the 32v in the F150 around that time as well to keep up with others like Toyota who now offer a 32v engine.
