Finally gonna get my dream truck!!!
Hey y'all,
I think it's finally gonna happen. After searching for two years straight, I have found and am about to buy tomorrow a '98 Lariat SuperCab 4.6 5-speed. It's white over tan with 60k miles and is in very good condition. I found one of these trucks two years ago and got to drive it an entire 4 days before a drunk 16-year old took care of it for me. Anyway, I've looked ever since for another Lariat stick-shift and found this '98. I guess I'm one of the few people that like all the niceties (leather, power everything, etc.) but still likes to shift his own gears. They must have made so few of them, 'cause they sure are few and far between. And '98 is the last year you could get a stick in a Lariat. I've still got the truck below in my sig that I now need to sell ASAP. I bought it new over 5 years ago and kinda hate to see it go, but I've always wished it had been a stick. This '98 is its identical twin on the outside, which is just merely coincidence. I'm keeping the ORP wheels and 17" Eagle GTII's and the Extang soft tonneau cover. The '98 is still riding on its original 16" aluminum rims and Goodyear Wranglers (yup, nearly bald!). I'm still debating on whether or not to keep the Powerdyne SC from my '97 to put on the '98. I've never been totally satisfied with it and can probably get the added performance from the 5-speed that the SC has given me with an automatic. I've actually got a 4.10 gearset and a set of FMS headers I never put on my '97 that ought to wake up the '98, blower or not. Anyway, just wanted to share my find with my fellow F150 folks. By the way, if you've got one of these Lariat stick trucks, send a reply just to satisfy my curiousity about their rarity.
By the way, under the thread regarding 5.4's in shortbed regular cab trucks, did anybody but me catch the description of the truck that was a former Florida Highway Patrol vehicle; a '98 LWB regular cab with a '99 Lightning motor and a 5-speed? He even said it had sway bars and 18" wheels. Is this for real? I didn't think Ford had a manual that would handle a standard 5.4 motor in an F150, much less a blown L motor. If they do, wouldn't they offer an L with one? Heck, if the F150 manual trans will handle it, I just may pick up an L crate motor someday and put it in my '98. Somebody let me know your opinions on that idea.

Re:
I thought the same thing about the tranny on that truck with the Lightning motor also... I have never heard of anything like that at all, but wouldn't go as far as saying it's not true... Perhaps it was specially made for the police department, but I have a feeling the dealership would look at me kind of funny if I tried to order a truck like that!
