2008 F-150 Needs engine replacement
Hi all,
Received some bad news yesterday. My truck (2008 F-150, 5.4L Triton, XLT) was running rough on the way to work. Pulling into the parking lot at work it stalled. At this point the engine light was not on.
I called a local mechanic I know to have him take a look at it. On the way over she drove ok...a little rough. In the parking lot she stalled, I think I was turning into the parking spot. When I turned her back on the engine light stayed on. Here is what the mechanic said.
The truck has 120K miles on it, a lot I know. Has had regular oil changes and never any problems except for a steering rod issue...can't remember the exact problem but it seems unrelated.
An engine replacement looks like it'll cost $7,000+.
When I do internet searches I see issues (esp. 2004 5.4L) seem to have the cam phaser, but this must be different due to the recommended "fix" I got.
Does the recommendation seem reasonable based on these codes and the diagnostic info above? I've been told not to drive it at all, due to this being a timing issue, I suspect that is true...there is metal in the oil...my goodness... but can anyone confirm. I think I'm in a bit of shock over this, one day my truck is running great the next she is out of commission and needs a new engine.
Any comments or advice would be great. Thanks all.

DIAGNOSIS
Codes stored POO18, POO22, PO305, PO316. Found oil is full of metal particles, and codes for fault cam position timing fault, and cam phaser. At times engine runs ok other times is out of time due to internal engine fault. Recommend engine replacement.
