Cleaning Fuel Injectors

My next door neighbor, a deisel mechanic always used mineral spirits to clean carburators. After soaking for a couple of hours he would blow the parts off using compressed air and the parts would instantly look brand new. My question is: Would it hurt fuel injectors to soak them in mineral spirits?
Thanks!

If you do this I think you would have to replace the O rings on the injectors also.

I have started running nothing but Shell, Exxon and Chevron gas through the system. I have just recently had to do a valve job and when the shop mechanic looked at the heads I was dropping off he asked me rather I had been buying my gas from Wal Mart or Racetrac? I told him...both. He said he could tell by the build up on my valves. He told me that he would bet that the injectors would be just as bad. I also read somewhere in this forum that running shelf cleaning chemicals through my fuel system could mess up my catylytic converters. I would like you guys to respond to these statements.
Thanks,
Chuck

I have ordered a fuel injector rebuild kit from www.rjminjectiontech.com ; The cost is $20.00. It comes with O rings and the small filters at the end of each injector. My main question is : would the mineral spirits mess with the plastic parts of the injectors?
Thanks.

the fuel system cleaner you read about being bad for the cats is called SEAFOAM>>>its primary ingredients are kerosine, naptha, paint thinner, mineral spirits.....it will clean varnish but won't touch carbon

As far as I know the concentrated fuel system cleaners are safe for cats/o2s as long as they are used accordingly to the directions of the manufacturer.....

you can also use those same fuel system cleaner concentrates as your cleaning solution when you are cleaning the injectors....

i recently took my injectors out and had the filter baskets replaced as well as replaced the orings..i had them flow tested to see if they were all flowing the same amount of fuel..one was off so i bought a reman and the truck is running better than ever. all in the total was less than 100 bucks. i provided the labor and a local place ultrasonically cleaned and flow matched the injectors for me...i my opinion there is no cure in a can.

Mineral spirits are pretty lame as a catalyst. Not sure why your asking, do you know what's involved for injector cleaning? No, you don't soak them, that will get you no where. You need to supply power and a flow bottle. Look it up on you tube, - I've seen guys making little set ups to clean them yourself.

I've ordered quite a bit of stuff thru FFI/RJM in the past. Very good guys over there and they only deal with good stuff @ a good price.

Personally, I just purchase new injectors or sonic cleaned sets. My last set came from Ebay @ $65 shipped. Those where new ones tho, Bosch 19's Type/Design 3's. The 3's have an improved spray pattern.

Watch those sites like eBay for killer deals.
