Spark Plugs

New to fords all together. First one owned and first one to work on. I have 01 F150 5.4L supercrew. Put around 50,000k on it and now has 135,000k on it. Really good condition. Change fluids religiously. Work on all my own vehicles but i am no nascar mechanic by any means.

I'm getting to the point where i feel i need to change my spark plugs and doing some looking around its seems a pain in the butt. Hearing quotes around $500, i will do it myself. I understand the 01' does not have the problem with the plugs breaking off in the head that the 04's and up have. just the problem of them spitting out. I hear that Fords are very "finiky" about what you put on them especially aftermarket parts. I have a couple Chevy trucks aftermarket parts all over them and run great. After driving this Ford for a couple years I love it. My main question is, what brand spark plug is the best way to go all around? Many say keep it Ford but why not use a more efficient hotter burning aftermarket plug? The next question, use antiseize or not? It makes sense not to cause of the spitting out problem but other f150 sites, the majority says you should use it. I have many more questions about the truck but i will keep it on plugs for now. and the last, looking under the hood it almost seems like theres no getting around taking off the fuel rail. Is it a must or does it just make it alot easier? Any help I can get is greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Use OEM Motorcraft plugs. The Tritons are picky.

What makes an aftermarket plug hotter burning and more efficient? The Motorcraft plugs are made by Honeywell to Ford specs, they are NOT the same as Autolites (also made by Honeywell). The only aftermarket plugs I think I'd run in a 2v Triton are Denso Iridiums.

Do a search on the forum....overall,the E3's are NOT a good option. For a one piece plug, the Champion is the better choice. Best bet though is the Motorcraft.
