have a 2004 f150 5.4 fx4. (Help...)
Just installed my OBX header kit today without the cats. notice some powerloss when driving it home. well.... went to a friends house to show the the exhaust and while i was leaving the truck started knocking really loud and started acting like it was about to shut off. Did not have much power when i press the gas. smelled a little smoke but no plume cloud was present. The knocking is primarily on the passanger side. Pulled up the diagnostic code with my evo programmer, read: P0012 - Intake camshaft position timing - over- retarded (bank 1)

Did some research and others claim it to be the VCT solenoid. i can probably post a video of it tomorrow morning, but am scared it will further damage my engine. Any thoughts?

Towed the Truck to the Shop today, found out that the Rocker arm destroyed the cam in one spot ( passenger side). Caused metal shavings. They quoted me $2200.!!! would it be cheaper to just replace to whole cam? The shop claims they have to get the cam machined as well. Which does make sense.. i will be getting the written quote faxed to me tomorrow morning and will post that up as well.

 

So this sounds exactly like my truck and I get the P0012 code. What did you do to resolve this?
