Post Different 4.6 engins

I have a 99 f150 with a 4.6l. I recently changed my oil and bought a new oil filter and they said there are two types of engines. A W series and a 6 series. I have the W. Does anybody know the difference between the two?

I believe that it means where they were built.

It does not make any sense but the "6" is for Windsor engine plant and "W" is for Romeo engine plant. I also have a 99 4.6 "W" Romeo and it seems more powerful than the 98 Windsor I had. They also take the same oil filter, by the way.

Hey cgcolston, you don't happen to have dark graphite captains chairs do ya? I would love to buy them or trade you for my 60/40 bench.

I have captains chairs with the center console that I was planning on trading. (girlfriend has to sit all the way across the truck) Will they cross over? My mothers 60/40 in her expedition does not have the same bolt pattern. The trucks may be the same. Does yours armrest fold down and have a cupholder in it?

Question

Main differneces are posted here: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/000202.html

I did a search on autotrader.com for '99-'00 f150's so I could see the VIN #s on the dealer listed trucks...Over 400 trucks listed, from all over the country, and NOT a single one of the 4.6s had the Windsor motor (6 in the 8th digit of the vin) All were Romeos... Does anyone out there have a '99 or later 4.6 with the Windsor motor and if you do, what state did you buy it in? Are they even still putting the windor 4.6s into F150s or are they all going in Expeditions?

Also, those of you with the 4.6 windsor, do you also have the factory tow pkg? The only Windsor 4.6s I've been able to find all seem to have come only in the trucks with the factory Tow pkg... Is there something going on here?

Thanks

Ford-Tough,

I am almost certain that the seats will cross over, I will gladly describe the bolt pattern if you wish. My 60-40 is dark graphite, has a fold down center console with the cupholder. It only has 3,800 miles so it is perfect. I need the added storage of the captains chairs center console. I understand what you mean with the girlfriend thing though. Mine likes to scoot over next to me but I again need the storage. Please e-mail me seacrow@hotmail.com. I would also be glad to cover any costs and or aggravation. Thanks, also my icq# is 8336332.

I have a 97 with a 6 in the 8th digit on my VIN and I also have the factory tow package. Are you saying the Windsor engine is more of a truck engine than the Romeo? According to my Haynes manual there are a few differences but I could not find much that made one look stronger than the other.

My 98 I had was a Windsor with no tow package. My 99 Romeo runs smoother than it did.

Ellenberger, check this link. If's it's true, the Windsor has larger Rods and end caps, then it is a beefier engine, able to withstand higher rev's...
