No mice, and the wires look great - except in the dark with the engine running. They run across the top of the valve cover, and some do touch, about 3 inches from the intake.

Jethat is correct about precise routing and securing. Never fully understood the reason for that but I've seen it and can confirm the importance of it. That's the easiest way to tell if the insulation is or has broken down (leaking), just raise the hood with it running on a nice dark night. Won't be dark for long. Either that or take ahold of the wires, now that'll tell you in a heartbeat, (maybe your last ).

What kind of plugs, and what is the plug gap? Plugs with a large gap will require much higher voltage, which will stress the plug wire insulation.

I took the driver's side wires off, which is where I saw the sparks in the dark and black-taped all of them. The miss was now gone, except for an occasional burp. I looked this morning in the dark and saw a spark coming from one of the holes in the coil pack for that side. Not sure yet if the end of the wire is leaking, or if the coil pack has a crack in that spot. I reckon it just may be the coil pack spoiling that side.
