Engine Swap

I have a '06 f150 with a 4.6 v8, and it is slightly lacking in power. I've really been looking into an engine swap to a 5.4. I'm really just wondering what the best motor is (2v or 3v) that I can do the most with. I'd prolly do atleast heads and cam, maybe look into supercharger or procharger. What are my best bets as far as parts? Would i be better off with a crate motor, or building it myself? any help would be very much appreciated!

It would be easier to swap in a 2v engine if your 4.6 is 2v stay with a 2v. I would look for one out of a new e series Van so maybe it can be more of a direct swap. I wouldnt want a 3v 5.4 if I could help it at all..

I am no expert in this area but for the easiest swap keep what you have now. in 06 f150's I believe they were all 3v.??? I could be wrong.

3v I think is easier as they create more hp and tq then 2v's. so you won't have to build it as much.

Good luck

4.6's remained 2v only becoming a 3v option later. I'm pretty sure all 06 4.6 engines were 2v. not positive..

Explore swap to an f 150

Hi boys I am new to this site, but have many questions. I recently bought a 92 f 150 with the 5.0 motor. I have a 2000 ford explorer that also has the 5.0 in it. The explorer needs a new steering column to run, but I would rather use the parts in my f 150 if possible. Could I do a clean swap of the gt 40 heads and intake from the explorer to my F 150? And maybe anything else?

Considering this is completely off topic of this thread- IF you want help- you should create a new thread.

BTW Welcome

Thanks for the input. I understand both sides of the 2v verses 3v, but I'm also looking at which engine is going to be the easiest for upgrades. I'm only considering this because i want to make some descent ponies afterwards.

Your easiest bet would be to build the 4.6. I wouldn't even THINK about a 3v.
