96 F150 Check Engine.

96 F150 with straight (300?) six. Ran it hot (STUPID) and cracked the head. When head was replaced I opted for a cheaper (low port?) head. Now I have a check engine light and am told it is a result of the other head.

Is there anything barring replacing with the stock head (not an option) I can do to resolve this issue. The truck has 129k miles but is clean and nothing else wrong mechanically.

Feel it has something to do with emission, possibly a vacuum hose needing to be either plugged or ????

I'm wanting to sell the truck but need to get the check engine issue corrected.

HELP!

Howdy and welcome.

Pull the trouble codes. 96's are OBD2, so any autozone or cheap scan tool can do it.

Went to Advance and the scan returned the following codes:
> P0443 - Evaporator Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit.
> P0411 - 2nd Air Injector Incorrect Flow.

Thanks.

Check engine light on 96 'straight' 6cyl

Note this is NOT a V8 engine..this is the straight 6.

Recap...ran hot and cracked head. Replaced 'high port' head with a 'low port' head ($100 cheaper). Now the Check Engine light comes on. Here are the codes returned @ Advanced:
> P0443 - Evaporator Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit.
> P0411 - 2nd Air Injector Incorrect Flow.
I have plugged the vacuum hoses open out of the emission 'module'. Check engine went away for about 100 miles and reappeared w/ same codes.

The 'low port' replacement head I had installed apparently does not have the same emission connections the 'high port' head.

Is there any way to bypass the emission system to eliminate the Check Engine light f/displaying.

Thanks.

Geez - if all you want to do is sell the truck, pull the bulb and play dumb.

I don't think the evap code is related to the head, you probably do have a legitimate evap issue. The AIR code is a different story, something isn't right with your smog pump plumbing.

I would not have suggested that with a newer vehicle. You have a bit of a Frankenstein there.
