Question 5W 20 oil

I have just purchased a 2001 Screw, and the Oil filler cap recommends 5w20 oil. I also have a 2000 Expidition that has the same engine. The Expidtion requires 10w 30 oil.
I find that kind of strange, and don't know why Ford has changed to the lighter oil for the Screw. Can some one explain this?
Also, through looking at Autozone Wal Mart, Advance Auto poarts I have yet to find any 5w20 oil. Does this mean it will only be a dealer item??

Oil

As far as I know 5w 20 is a dealer oil. If it is on the shelfs I haven't seen any off it yet.

Are you sure your Expi requires 10W-30 oil? I think 5W-30 is more likely.

my local wal-mart sells both the oil and motorcraft filters. the oil(motorcraft brand) was only $1.26 qt, it has gone up though.the change was made for better mileage and less emissions, according to Ford.

I use Amsoil 5W-20. Castrol GTX has a 5W-20 too.

valvoline also has a 5w-20 out, priced the same as the other weights. Most places I've been to around here seem to be carrying it already. Not sure, but I am guessing the recommended weight on your expy is 5w30, not 10w30. Good luck!

Thanks to everyone who has replied on the oil question.
Ford tells me the thinner oil will improve the fuel economy too.I am to be corrected for theExpi- it does require 5W 30 and not 10W 30.
Would there be any problem with supplying 5W 30 bor both engines?

And one more thing, what does the LEV (Low Emmissions Vehicle)
option due to/for the engine? it is less powerful now that it is a low poluter?

Whatever oil you decide to use MUST meet the specifications required by Ford in order to keep the warranty valid. For now, the only oils meeting the '01 specification are 5W20 weight. You can run 5W20 in both engines.

Exxon Superflo 5W-20.

Found this at Autozone for about a buck a quart. Says right on the front meets or exceeds Ford and Honda new car requirements. Also did the oil change on my own and it wasn't too bad except I didn't do very well catching the stream coming out of the plug. Any ideas on this guys?

Hey Screwdriver...

Here is a website to a oil drain valve that I plan on getting here pretty soon myself http://www.fumotovalve.com . Look under the V-6 Engine forum and someone else has used it also and happy with it. Hope this helps.

Nomo is 100% correct. 5W-20 oil has been approved by Ford for use in older engines too.

Has anyone seen Mobil 1 5w-20? I use Mobil 1 in everything and I really hope I don't have to use another type of oil in the truck.

Thanks,
Steve

My Screw says 5W20, my Ford dealer has changed my oil twice and put in 10W30. I am still trying to figure out how to handle this. but i intend to use Synth. oil....I just want to see what ford says about the fact that thier dealer is using oil that may in fact viod my warranty.
