Okay guys, my 5.4 in my '03 F150 took a dump this week and a found a guy local with a 35,000 mile re-maned 5.4L that came out of a '99 Van. Is this the same engine in my F150? I mean I know the motor mounts and accessories will obviously be setup different but is the oil pan, transmission bolt up, all that major stuff the same?

 

I believe the 99 van was non PI. Your engine has the PI (performance improved) heads. In the trucks, the 99 was the first year of the PI design. About a 25hp difference. But I believe they came later in the vans. They are the same, and swappable with minimal parts swapping but there was a PI version and non PI version.

 

Okay after some research I did come across the PI vs non PI heads. How do I tell if this 5.4 has PI or non PI heads??

Specs show the 99 van 5.4L with 235hp, which would be a non PI engine. The PI engine had 260hp.

 

Okay so this motor isn't a PI engine from the van, however it is really clean and I can get it for a steal. It has the intake manifold and all other accessories on it, but can I use my old engine harness and ECM without an issue or would I have to get the ECM for the non PI engine?
