I just had my motor replace late last year becuase of a s*** ton of timing issues and a whole bunch of crap. Anyways the mechanic told me an 06+ engine is the way to go. He said they had fixed alot of the old issues by that time. (i have an 06 engine in my 04 truck by the way)

Good Luck!!!

actually 08+ is when they redid the heads fixed the plugs and all. I'd look for an engine out of a totaled 08+

The head redo was in mid-08. The engines with the old heads have black COP boots, the new ones have brown boots.

Without searching the forum to prove it, I believe I remember issues trying to put an 09/10 engine in a 04-08 truck.
