Heli-Coil issues...

Well I think the heli coil on one of my cylinders is starting to back out. I would like to install a timesert but, of course, its my number 4 plug. Anyone that has installed a time sert on their number 4 have any advice? I just changed the intake gaskets and am kicking myself for not doing it then and I really dont want to take off the intake again because that also means new gaskets. How do you take out the coil? After you tap new hole how did you vacuum out cylinder? Again any advice would be greatly appreciated. '97 4.6

Nah, you just reposition your core hoses and bungee the harness back. Plenty of room. More than you have on #8 and 8's been serted without anything major removed.

On the 97, remove the harness cradle totally before tie back.

Harness Cradle = Your MEGA 175's are mounted to this.

Opens a huge hole for yuh, once you wrap a bungee around the wires and pull the harness back.

No need to remove the coil.

You can rent the kit from Galaxy, cheaper than purchasing one. I think coobies5 is done with it. Not sure if he sent it back yet, maybe he can send it straight to you lol.

I sent it back to him a few days ago, but he's out of the country for a few more days.

Nah, you can remove the coil if desired, but the pack is at the front of the motor. Not sure how that would be in the way (?)

PM Sent-questions answered.

jbrew...he means remove the heli-coil that's (I'm assuming) still in the head, not the ignition coil. Yes...that sucker has to come out!

Ahh, okay. That makes more sense.

Worked on the number 4 cylinder today and have had no luck getting the heli coil out...Seems like a pretty simple task but with NO room up under the firewall its starting to get annoying. Again, any tips on how to remove would be great. Im installing a timesert and apparently that heli has to come out.

Use a spiral screw extractor (EZ out). I had to do this last summer, went very well. I don't remember the size, but make sure it's small enough not to damage the head threads. By the way, the so-called "Bigserts" are really the same OD as the "Triton Timeserts". I ordered a set of both and measured them. I used the Triton Timeserts after removing two helicoils and they seemed to work fine.

I really appreciate the responses guys. Ya those screw extractors sort of look like the only real option with limited space so I'll give that a try. TY
