Question Blue Oval Oil Changes

Ok Guys,

I have had my oil changed 3 times so far, (truck is 6 weeks old ) I had it changed @ my local Ford Dealership with 1970 miles on it. I had it changed @ a Colorado Dealership with 5000 miles on it and then again at my local dealership with 8100 miles on it. Heres the thing: the first place put in 10W30 and a mobil filter, the second place 5W20 and a motorcraft filter ( the recomened oil and filter) and then the origanal place again 10W30 and a mobil filter.

These are both FORD BLUE OVAL SERVICE DEPTS. I was kind of pi$$ed @ the first place but think the 10w30 is better for my motor. I went back there to make sure they used the same products the second time. Will this void my warranty? I intend to go synthetic next change but want to talk to ford and settle this issue first. Am I wrong in thinking that if its good enough for FORD, I should be able to put Amsoil or Mobil One in my motor and have to worry about what Ford might think?

I would sure like to know the first dealers position on putting the 10w30 in. I'd like to run Mobil1 10w30 as well but you all know the discussions on this. Tell us what the dealer says.

Seeing how you are having FORD service change your oil and they put in the wrong oil acording to what the manual says I would keep very good documentation of it so if the engine ever fails and they blame you for putting in the wrong oil you can show they screwed up and have to buy you a new engine or truck.

I should be able to put Amsoil
Yes I would.

All of the vehicle OEMs in the U.S. have agreed that a warranty cannot be denied because a customer was using any brand of motor oil at any length drain interval unless an engine failure was directly attributable to the oil or drain interval. For example, if your radio, power steering unit, air conditioner, etc., broke down, they could not void the warranty that covers those items because you were changing your engine oil at 6,500 miles or one year. If it is not an oil related failure, they cannot void the warranty. The law supports this position

Ironically, in Europe the auto manufacturers recommended drain intervals are from 12,000-18,000 miles using petroleum products, and are moving even higher. In the U.S., it has been published that auto manufacturers are also going to be moving toward extended drain intervals of up to 15,000 miles in the not too distant future. G.M. is currently moving toward a system that tells you when to change your oil based upon a computer program that evaluates your driving habits. Some other car companies are planning on having an on-board oil analyzer to tell you when to change your oil. This will allow for shorter drains for poorer quality oils and longer drains for higher quality oils, where G.M.’s system will not distinguish between the two. As these changes develop, so will the language in owner’s manuals as well as extended warranty policies.

Good Luck and let me know if I can help you. Hope this help.

Thumbs up

I agree. I have also read many articles about the use of synthetics and the coverage of your warranty. As long as the products meet the specifications of Ford's, then it cannot void your warranty. I also use Amsoil Synthetic 5w30 in my truck. I believe that the synthetic oil will give you some added benefits also(smoother idle and less wear on the internal componants, etc.) Email me or visit my website for more information. Hope this helps.
