Plane and Simple
karstens,
This is really simple. Everyone will make this out to be a big deal, meaning dealers, service managers, and anyone who doesn't know what they are talking about. But put plane and simply, mods can not detract or void your warranty unless the dealer or service department can prove unequivocally that the part you added had detrimental effect on your vehicle and caused it to stop functioning in the manner it was designed for.
Check this out for more info. The page is part of a company that makes after market memory for computers but they have one of the better laid out understandings of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975

Hope this helps!

Derek,
How are the 5spd trannies and 8.8 rear ends holding out under all that power? My lease is up in Dec. of 2002. I am thinking of either a SuperDuty with V10 W/manual or another F-150 like this one but with the 7700# package. The reason for the SuperDuty is the F-150's weak power train. How do you keep yours alive? I keep breaking mine.
If I go with the F-150 7700# package at least I get a strong differential.

Everyone should read the warranty guide that comes with your new vehicle. Under "WHAT IS NOT COVERED" it reads "altering or modifying the vehicle - including the body, chassis, or components - after the vehicle leaves Ford's control". Also it says "non-Ford parts installed after the vehicle leaves Ford's control. For example, but not limited to cellular phones, alarm systems, and automatic starting systems, tampering with the vehicle, tampering with the emissions systems, or with other parts that affect these systems". So you see, Ford covers their butt. To put in plain english, they can and will deny any warranty as they see fit. Had an engineer from Ford deny an engine warranty due to K&N air filter. Said it was not Ford approved! Customer could not do anything but pay the bill. Also, superchips and such things can void warranty because they alter the original programming of the pcm which Ford has to follow guidelines from the epa. Sorry if this busts anyone's bubble, but it's how Ford operates.
That's right Dun, "some" Ford dealers sell K&N air filters in their parts departments. K&N is an "aftermarket" product. A Ford dealer can sell anything they want out of "his" parts department but that does not mean Ford has to honor it!!!!!
Dealer replaced head gaskets on my 4.6. It had a K&N, headers and a home made air inlet system like the K&N FIPK. I was smart enough to remove the chip. They would not warranty the Differential if I blow it up again. They stated the aftermarket items are what caused it to go south. I had the dealer install an axle girdle to protect it. Dealers are fickle so go where you get the best service. In canada we don't have the Magnuson-Moss act to fall back on so we have to play their game.

kjunman,
Glad you know so much about Ford. Not to "bust your bubble" (here's where I get flamed) but you couldn't be any more wrong on this subject. For starters, look at any of the other 15 MILLION posts on this site about this. Everyone has the same concensus. Ff they don't honor the warrenty, FIGHT and FIGHT and FIGHT and YELL, and then threaten. You'll get your way.
But, from what you are stating about what is in the Ford Warrenty Manual is your interpertaion. My interpertation on your post is that "WHAT IS NOT COVERED" means you put it on, you take care of it. If your SuperChip blows, it's not our problem. If your new RCD lift breaks, you bought it, you installed it, you fix it.
Saying you CAN NOT add anything to your truck or the warrenty is void or we wont cover the part(s) effected is just stupid and bad business practice and I have never had Ford tell me anything but this. They want your business and if that means one of thier techs takes an extra hour to fix a problem they might not be obligated to do, they'll usually do it. And then turn around and bill Ford for the labor anyway for something else.
And if you took that ***** from a Ford Engineer (cover your ears) you really should have bought a Dodge!

Biggins,
Great minds think alike
You are correct regarding "Ford Warranty." They depend on ignorance by the customer to BS them. An informed customer is another matter.
Get your road atlas out and open it to the Garbage State, then look just across from the NE upper end of Phila. on the New Jersey side.
Karstens, T
The K&N Ford sells from their parts department IS an authorized item and IS listed in the Ford brochure of "Accessories" and is warranted as stated in the brochure.
