Question Factory Air Box

While looking in my garage tonight, I found the factory air box I had taken off when I installed my K&N FIPK. I noticed that the piece that plugged into the drivers fender for air intake would come off from the cone that held the original air filter. I was bored so I looked under my hood and noticed that I could plug the small piece into the fender where it had originally gone. There is about three or four inches from this to the end of the K&N Filter. What I was wondering was would this be of any type of benefit to leave it there (getting more cool outside air into engine compartment, specifically right behind the K&N). Just curious?

Better yet go buy a piece of 3"dia. rubber hose about 6 inches long & put in the opening in fender. This does help bring more cooler air from out of the fender area. This is what I did to mine.

Thumbs down Actually...

...I don't think it does anything other than to plug up the hole further...and as far as the 3" x 6" goes, I don't think any air flows through there fast enough to make it through the tube. It may, if you were to pull out the plastic trim peice from underneath the driver's side head light and above the bumper. You'd also have to cut it out, to let the air in from the front.

Cooler air is better than more hot air. I run the factory box in the summer and open filter in the winter. Lots of tests done on this subject. Check the Lightning Forum
