ccla,

I opt with the up-front method with my own wife. I told her about the Airaid and muffler swap before I did both, and she just nodded and said "whatever." Then we were out riding one day in the truck, and I commented on both mods. She then said, "When did you do the muffler thing? I didn't know you were going to."
She just forgot, since those things aren't all that important to her. And I'm pitching the Superchip as a gas mileage increaser....so far it's working.

So long as I'm not diverting funds away from our family needs, I don't think she has a problem if I buy a new toy now and then.

She *does* like the sound now when I punch the gas. It reminds her of her old Gremlin, which she said was quite fast. I'm not sure I like the comparison. :/ Oh well!

Question about 97 150's-

Were the v-8s tritons in the 97 model year? I'm wondering this because in 98 models with a v-8 they have that little Triton V-8 plaque thing under the F-150 on the side of the truck. 97 models dont have this so i wondering if they are triton engines or did the tritons come out in 98?

They had the tritons in 97 also. They just added the emblem in 98.

I don't know a whole lot about online buying, but from what I understand it may definately may be something worth looking into. I have heard a few stories about it and it seems that you may be able to get a better price as opposed to going to the dealership and haggling. I think you have to know the price and post the offer to see if anyone is willing to accept it. Try priceline.com. Maybe someone else around here knows a little more than I, and would be willing to share.
Good Luck, and Good Choice

To the 16 yr. old who is soon to buy....I have your truck! 97 XLT 4x4 4.6L with just about everything on it....DK. Toreador Red/Saddle two tone ... ready to go. I am ordering a new one and have this baby for sale. It has nothing but highway miles on it and has been garaged and coddled all of its life. You can't go wrong with one of these trucks no matter where you get it.

Cool

FuNewGee,

Ah a Southern Californian!! What part? I'm in good ole Long Beach, First of all, you're one lucky kid to be getting your own F-150. As far as which one to get? I suggest you test drive em with the accessories that you want in it, this will give you an idea how it will ride and how it functions. The 4.6 is a very good motor, it should fulfill all of your driving needs. As far as the rear end get your 4.6 with the 3.55's you'll be happy with that set up. I don't think you'll need the 5.4, besides a few mods here and there, starting with the superchip and your 4.6 will scoot faster, oh yeah since your only 16 you're not interested in speed, just mpg right?? Well, if you need any help just e-mail me at cadriano@aol.com, i have quite a few connections with the FORD dealerships around our area, specially with the new trucks coming in, we can really deal!! Good luck truck hunting!!

The post that said see the "fleet salesperson for a good price, why may i ask that you do that? All you have to do is look up the particular truck or car that you wish to purchase, use Edmounds or Carpoint, they all tell you the dealer invoice on what type of truck or car you want to buy. All options are listed with the dealers cost, write all of the info down and send a e-mail to Auto-by-tel and they will give you the nearest Auto-by- Tel dealer and the sales person of that dealership, also your message that you receive back from ABT will have a persons name to contact if you need questions answered or have any problems at all.
You call the dealership and ask for so in so the ABT sales person and they will give you a price over the phone, most ask for $200.00 over dealers cost.... Try it i've done it three times now,1 chyrsler and 2 ford/mercury dealerships.
If for any reason they don't go along with the Auyo-by-tel pricing, turn them into abt and get another dealers name.
This buying on the internet is big business, and competition is growing..

Cool

CAF150- Im down in Orange County. Santa Ana to be exact. Im actually pretty set up when it comes to connections. A good friend of mines Uncle works at a dealer so I can test drive without being bothered into purchasing it. A good friend of my parents works at a dealers fleet dept. An added bonus is that the owner of Gibson Exhuast lives near me and his kid actually goes to my school. A buddy of mine who got a exhuast from them said that they need to do some modifications to fit it though, he has a 150 too but it is a long bed so maybe that caused problems.

Also about mpg and mods-

Im looking for the speed and power upgrades but my parents will only be concerned about the mpg increase so it may not be hard to get them to agree with a few mods

Since the new models are coming out soon prices have really dropped so i guess im lucky i waited this long

FuNewGee, If i were 16 yrs old and knew what i know now, i'd forget about a p/u truck and study like he__, get into college and make something of yourself.
At 16 the world looks like a candy store and you think you can pick out any flavor you want, It's not like that at all, believe me.........Dogcam

Dogcam-

Although im looking to put time into my truck im not neglecting any school work or any other stuff in relation to school. Last year i had an average of a 3.83 gpa which isnt bad, but its ok for a sophmore. This is also while being in a year round intense football program for my school which i will be starting varsity this year. I know plenty of kids who spend too much time on their cars or only care about football and their grades are lacking. I hope they have fun during high school and if they are lucky will have fun and a good job afterwards. I am planning for my future. Im planning on attending a UC(university of california) school which are highly regarded around the country and maybe go into the field of psychology. The truck is just something that will get me places that i would enjoy driving

If you're going to major in psychology then you are at the right web site to get some field work experience.

Question

this won't be too popular on this site, but, I own a 4x4 4.6 and I am not happy. Poor milage, no low end, terrible power, mechanical problems, almost no support from Ford. You may like the body style ( I did) but, if you are interested in performance, test drive a chey 5.3..... I did and I'm selling my ford.
