351W swap to 383-Stroker
351W swap to 383-Stroker
OK don't go completly crazy Ford Lovers until you read everything. lol I don't want to offend the diehard Ford Enthusiasts here.
I have a 1948 International 4x4 Pickup Truck. It sits on a 1987 F150 Chasis and has a 351W in it.
I have a fresh sbc 383-Stroker that I just built last year I kept out of a truck I sold. I hand selected every part in this motor and sorry guys but it is my absolute favorite motor. Have a lot of money in it. I am neither a Ford or Chevy guy myself. Have built, owned, and enjoyed both.
Being that this truck is a International I honestly could care less if it was Ford or Chevy powered. However I do have the 383-Stroker on hand, new, and paid for.
Everything else has been custom moded to the International Truck for the F150 Chasis and I don't want to do anything more than I have to.
So question is.... Can I get a aftermarket Bellhousing that goes SBC Engine to a C4 Trans.....?
If I change the trans to a Chevy then I am buying Trans/Transfer Case/Custom Drive Shaft... which will be a lot of custom work time and money.
I have seen Bellhousing for a Ford Motor to a Chevy TH350..... but not the other way around.
If anyone knows where I could find a Bellhousing Adapter please let me know.
Thanks, John

Well this is what I have found so far. 1987 F150 Chassis > Custom Motor Mounts > SBC Engine > 700R Trans or TH350 > AdvanceAdapters Trans to Transfercase Adapter p/n 50-6904 > The Transmission / Transfercase Adapter marries the Chevy Transmission to Ford's NP205 Transfercase. Thus you can keep the 4wd (Transfer cases are opposite sides for the Front Drive Shafts on Fords and Chevys) SBC Engine to a Ford Transmission cannot be done. The Chevy Transmissions were superior so nobody makes the adapters. FYI there are Engine / Transmission Adapters out there to Adapt Ford Engines to Chevy Transmissions.
Interesting!. I have never thought of such a swap. I have a Firebird with a LT-1, 383 Stroker from Scroggins-****ey. My Expedition has a 4.6 Ltr. V-8.
With almost 312K miles on the 4.6 it might be wise to seek another vehicle soon. However I never thought of putting the LT-1 into the Expedition
