Angry A/C condensation leaking on exhaust

Is there any way to stop the crackling and popping noises after I shut the truck off when it's warm/hot? I took it to the dealership today and the service guy told me it's normal. But it's alot worse than last year and it's getting on my nerves. It usually lasts for a few minutes and deminishes after a while.

Hate to say it, but nearly every vehicle I have owned makes these noises. Did it ever cause a problem? None that I am aware of. Not a helpful answer if you want to change it, but the other answer of "don't run the air conditioner" probably isn't real helpful either.

Good luck!

Even if I don't run the A/C on; it still builds up condensation drips alittle water. The dripping water doesn't bother me. The "snap, crackle, pop" sound is annoying. Honestly, it sounds like it coming from INSIDE the exhaust (headers or cats). I'm just hoping for a easy fix because one of my coworkers has a 2K F150 Lariat (5.4L) and doesn't have this problem.

I had my dealer do a reroute of the condensate drain hose. They covered this under the warranty with no questions asked. I got the impression that there was a kit for them to do this (because he had to order it) but it was done in less than a day.

There is a kit that was dealer installed... The original purpose for the kit was because the condensation built up and pooled right on top of your right bank O2 sensor and could cause a check engine light. Those damn things are heated and if your wires on the O2 weren't sealed in the plug the right way it would short them out. Or give you a P0135 Code for O2 Heater Check Fault. What they did I believe was put a heat shield over it to redirect the water away for them this also got rid of the sizzle noise..

Angry

I too am irritated by the scattering of the condensate all over everywhere when the A/C is running. The sizzling drip was the first thing I went looking for when I put my new truck in the garage at home.

I have had Dodge trucks (oops!) most of my life, and this is my first Ford (not my last!). The Dodges had a short 1" drain tube on the bottom of the A/C box. It was simple to attach a clear vinyl tube to route the water below the chassis. I went looking for the drain on my F-150... it's only a short gap in the A/C case where they allow the water to drool all over the place. No way I could see to fix it to drain properly with a tube. Guess I'll check with the dealer to see what the kit mentioned in the previous post is.

I have had many rides make the same noise over the yeras. I friend once told me he believes it's the water just sizzling off of hot parts???

Lightbulb make a catch

Hey guys... Flea here.

Why don't you try to take a piece of plastic or sheet metal or something and build a catch of some sort under the A/C unit? That way, you can redirect the condensation any way you want and you won't get the popping or sizzling sounds anymore. No more rusted O2 sensors, too.

Some food for thought.

Thanks for the info guys. Now this scares me about rusted 02 sensors. I'm gonna take the truck back and see a different service writer this time. Does anyone know if there's a service bulletin on this?
My truck has 30K miles and I want this thing in perfect working order before the warranty expires.

There is a service bulletin but it doesn't specificly say what causes the noise. But it's annoying.

Someone posted recently that their just out of warranty Expy ended up with a rusted out heat shield over the passenger side cat from it. I looked at mine while it was doing it and sure enough, ran right over it and it's already slightly discolored.
