I wasn't planning on doing it, I just heard about it and wanted to know. One of my friends was planning on doing it, and when he tried, it wouldn't let him start his truck. For the two who were asking why I leased anyways. Easy, it is cheaper. Plus, I am going to modify my truck because it is something I just want to do. I've modified all of my trucks. I am not going to stop here, just because I leased.

Post Odometer Rumor?

I was told that if you lease a truck, and you want to keep the miliage down, that it is possible to disconnect a fuse, that cuts off the Odometer, and the rest of the dash. Good because it leaves miles off, and Bad because you don't know when you are going to run out of gas. I also heard that there is a little black box that records everything, and was wondering if the dash fuse was disconnected, would the black box still keep track?

Why would you spend money on putting "many future mods" on a LEASED vehicle that will be returned? And if you say you're going to buy it at the end of the lease, then you shouldn't have to worry about over mileage....

Great White, If you thought you were going to have a problem with mileage you really shouldn't of leased it. I wouldn't try to disconnect the odometer....how would you like to be the next person to own that truck? I leased mine and I know either I have to keep the mileage down, buy it at the end of the lease, or turn it in and pay the penalty. Although I have heard from a couple of people who leased their vehicles and went over the mile limit. When their lease was up they either bought or leased another new vehicle from the same dealer and the dealer didn't charge them for going over the mile limit.

Great White, I don't think it is possible anymore. The trucks that can do this are the ones with the digital odometer. I got a friend that has a 97 Super Duty CC PSD 4x4...and he took the fuse out of his because he was at 35,500 miles and needed warranty work done, just doesn't have the time right now to take it in. The fuse takes out the odometer, speedometer, tripometer, inside cab lights, but I don't think it affected his gas gauge. He has got a 5spd so he can tell how fast he is going by his tachometer. On the 99+ SD's, the odometer is the standard rollover type so I don't think this is possible anymore. Yes he is aware of the supposedly computer they have at the dealers that can tell how many miles you have really driven. I am not sure if the F150's have this rollover type odometer, but I would't suggest that you mess with it. Of course though, you got to what you got to do.

<eyeroll>

Intentionally disconnecting or tampering with the odometer is illegal.

However, mine died, and I haven't made it back to the dealer to get it fixed yet. I'm curious to know if my truck's computer is also keeping track of the mileage, so when Ford replaces the odo, it will be actual mileage and I won't have to hassle with all the paperwork for the DMV that might occur (I don't know if it will, I've never had an odo die before).

Guess I'll find out when I go in for repairs soon.

I don't think F150's have the so called "black box" Few cars do, Vettes are one of them. If it did simply disconnecting the battery for several hours would clear it, as data is stored in a RAM type memory.

It is not illegal to disconnect the the odo.
It's illegal to not disclose it.

You love the truck or you wouldn't drive it so much.
Buy it at the end of the lease.
You might be able to get a 5 year loan to keep payments down.

BTW the computer in the 99's keeps track of milage.
Disable computer and you won't put any more miles on odometer.
(Truck won't start)
