PLEASE HELP: 5.4L timing chain tensioners- is there a new design?
2005 5.4 3v. Doing a phaser/chain/guides/tensioner replacement. I just opened up the box for the 2 tensioners. They have separate steel backing plates, not the little fragile o-ring seals. WTH? Is this a new design or what? Or is it an old design? I bought them from rock auto and the box had a layer of dust on it... I need this truck tomorrow. Plz help!

Well hopefully you figured it out already but if not I had the same question when I got mine. I asked on here and nobody had seen these before. I posted pics. I installed mine without the steel backing plates and mine is running great sofar(>5K miles).
