Is my Engine toast?

Huge problem today.

Truck has 125k miles on it, 5.4L 3V. Been running a K&N intake system with matching Troyer tunes for 50k miles problem free.

Yesterday, driving against a 50mph headwind, the truck lost power in OD and shifted to 3rd for cruising randomly but cruised fine in 3rd. Drove it to the exit (~5 miles), pulled off the road (at this point it was surging/shaking like crazy) and shut it off and popped the hood. My heart sank when I saw that the intake filter had popped off the tube, so the truck was running without an air filter for a bit. Naturally, it threw codes p2195 and 2197 (A/F bank lean).

I re-installed the filter, reset the PCM and tried to start it, idled super rough and died...CEL came back on saying "low oil pressure." It is not drivable. A mechanic friend said it could be the MAF sensor, a vacuum leak or other sensor.

But what is the likeliness that dust or crap got into the motor and completely F'd it? Or am I going to be okay?

I wouldn't think the filter being off for that short a time would cause the engine to do just up and die. But what do I know?

Yeah but it was in 3rd gear and I have short 4.56 ring/pinions so it was doing about 3300 rpm during that whole period, likely running ridiculously lean...

I would also clean the throttle body.

Might want to check the oil level before worrying about about cleaning the MAF. The low oil pressure is the one that would have me worried.

Good call. I'm towing it to Ford tomorrow, I'll post back with the verdict afterward.

Doesn't matter if it's off warranty. Just make sure you have them call you before reflashing the PCM.

I didn't say anything about warranty....did I?

I just didn't want his tune to get flashed over and his stock file still on his programmer....

Haven't had a chance to get it moved. I'd like to try to fix it myself if possible. Will the computer say "low oil pressure" if the engine RPMs were dropping super low during rough idle? That is what happened. If the oil level is right, I should be fine right?

As for cleaning the TB and MAF sensor, what is the best way to go about this? There are videos on Youtube and such but I'd like input from anyone who has done this or knows the *proper* way to make sure it is done right. Also since the truck was throwing lean codes, is it possible the O2 sensors were affected?

Once I clean the TB and MAF sensor and re-connect all hoses, should I reset the PCM again before trying to start it?

Oh, and my truck is far out of warranty and my dealer is fine with my Troyer tune and frankly they know it is safer for the truck than the factory tune, so no need to worry there.
