Can someone tell me what this pulley is in the engine? It is on the drivers side at the bottom of the engine. It seems to be very rusted, is this normal?

 

PS pump. Yes metal rusts.

 

Power Steering pump?
Should it be that bad though, will it get so bad I need a new one?

 

must have some major road salt in the winter where your at. 2008 truck? Some bad rust.. i wouldnt replace it unless the power stearing is acting up, There a bugger to get off. gotta take off the pully to get at the bolts.

 

My 2004 is far worse then that. I spoke with my buddy who is a Ford Mechanic and he said he has never heard of one going bad.

Jethat is CORRECT, to remove the Pump, you need to have a puller and Ford did a great job of Jamming (way more then pressing) the pulley on!

Holy Moses! Am I glad I don't live where you live. My '04 looks like new, even living 4 miles from the ocean. What seems to be prominent in the picture is a line. I can't imagine a pump housing rusting through but if it has that kind of rust on an '08, that crimped retainer on that line looks like it could. Maybe I'm not seeing what I think I'm seeing.
