Here's the issue, 2000 5.4 auto 4x4. Took off from a light last night and a bit down the street it started sputtering. My first guess was COP was bad from the last time. But, that time it wasn't so consistent, this time it seems to do it 95% of the ride home, maybe once it clears up for seconds. Coils aren't new, 5 yrs and maybe 70k km's on em. Plugs are newish, fuel filter is a month old, recent MAF, IAC and t-body cleaning, 2 months ago?

No codes (yet) and I've searched here so I've got a pretty good idea it's the coils, just wanted a second opinion. Also, after it warms up only a tiny bit, 3 min idle in the parking lot plus 1/4 mile drive down the road, then it starts. Light but gets worse as I go. I'm about to get a code reader borrowed and rip the coils out but wanted a idea of something different I'm not seeing based on symptoms and experiences? I think maybe the 02 sensors are gone or close to it, cats rattle and exhaust manifold has a leak it seems. Thanks guys!

 

Well, turns out AGAIN, the number 3 coil on plug was kaput. Put in an old coil and she runs fine. I had just checked the plugs maybe 2 months ago, but now the residue on it kinda singled it out. Thanks anyhow.
