Over the last year or so I have noticed, after driving my Expedition, it smells hot. Not really noticable unless you walk around thr front of teh truck. No codes, and CHT ok. Doesn't seem to be affected by the weather, or using the Edge. Any one else noticed this, or have any idea? Truck runs fine, just concerns me some. Thought it might be a converter going bad or something.

 

are you sure the fan clutch is working properly?
Is the coolant level correct?

check underneath see if you got something plastic stuck to the exhaust...might have gotten scoped up on the road?

 

Coolant and temps OK. Smell is metallic.

It is a hot metal smell, similar to welding, or metal cutting with a laser.

 

Is there a heat shield touching the exahust?

 

or a brake that is hanging up??

 

Wheel bearing/hub going bad?

 

tranny?? or power steering pump ?
