Fuel Injectors
Fuel Injectors
Can someone tell me what different fuel injectors would do for performance...if any? A friend of mine has a set out of a 5.0 Mustang that may fit my truck (we haven't checked yet). What are the positives/negatives to installing these? Let me know! Thanks!

HI!... GR82BAGATOR : The stock fuel injectors in your truck are 19LBs (ORANGE). The injectors in the 4.6 2-valve mustangs are also 19lbs (ORANGE). The injectors in the 4.6 4-valve are 24lbs (BLUE). If the injectors your buddy has, are out of a 4.6 2-valve, then their useless to you. If there out of a 4.6 4-valve then they will only benefit you if your current truck 4.6 is making up towards 384H.P max at the flywheel. That is as much as a 24lb injector can support. The stock 19LB injectors can support only up to 304H.P at the flywheel. So if your not making at least 304H.P at the flywheel than 24LB injectors will yeild you no benefits. A bigger fuel injector will ONLY give you more H.P if your engine requires more fuel because it is maxing out the one's currently installed. Hope this helps you out.

Neal,
Besides replacing the 19lb injectors with the 24lb injectors, what other modifications had to be made when changing the injectors?
Recently, talking with Mike T., he had mentioned something about re-calibration of the MAF.
Reason for asking, with the modifications that have been made to my 4.6, it's starving for fuel beginning @ 4000 rpm. Through the custom Superchip, the injectors sequence is max. with no more to give. I'm experiencing some detonation, surging, and that whisk of white jet trail from the exhaust. Can't run it much more like this until I can feed it more fuel.

HI!.... CRAZY : Mike T gave you the right info. If you step up to 24LB injectors you will have to re-calibrate your MAF. I believe this can be done with a custom SUPERCHIP program as well but not sure. I've been running about 8 months now with 24lb injectors and no MAF recalibration. This is not intentioal. It's just that I had MIKE T design a custom "FLIP-CHIP" for me and it has been set up to run a pro-m 80mm maf. In CANADA the PRO-M goes for about $640.00(CAN)!!!!! So it will be a while before I can afford to install one. Because of this, I'm still experiencing fuel starvation a bit, but not to the severe extent that I was before. I hope this helps you out.
