There should only be 2 wires going to the starter. also should eb easy to follow them up to the battery. The larger one which I believe is red goes to the battery, then there should be a small yellow/green strip wire going to the starter then it goes to a little black connector near the battery(looks like an inline fuse) then back into the wire loom and into the cab to the fuse box. a third wire might be a ground I dont remember if it is grounded there at the starter or not, but should be easy to follow that to the frame

of course since you did not say what year truck you have i just gave you the info for a 04-08....

What year....?

This is 97-03 wiring

There are 3 wires. One grounds to the mount bolt, believed to be the one you are referring to as the " multi gauged" wire. Since there are 2 wires.

There is also a chassis ground in the starter wire harness that grounds to the frame rail, don't forget that. Or it won't start
