Thumbs up 94 f150 v8 Changing distributor

HI, I have a 1994 f150 5.0l v8 and I want to change my distributor. I have 179,000 miles on a stock one and it miss fires every once in a while. Ok I know how to change one to a point but were do I put the Timeing light in lamen terms, if anyone could give me steps on how to change it, it would be nice sorry for the stupid question but it would be very help full thank you!

What would make you think the distributor needs to be replaced? The misfire is most likely a bad wire plug injector or something like that. The distributors rarely if ever cause missfires. They either work or not. Could need a cap or rotor. If your determined to replace it get a hayens/chiltons book and follow the procedure in it. Not that hard.
