I think it's the belt stretching out.

When I floor the gas pedal, the tranny drops to first like it should. But during the transmission shift from 1st to 2nd, the belt (maybe something else) makes a brief squeak. Kind of like the squeak a belt makes when it's going bad and needs to be replaced. But I just replaced it. And it used to do it before I put a new belt in it. I guess my engine is reving so much, the belt can't keep up with the rpm the pulleys are making... i guess. I'm pretty sure it's the belt. I just wish I knew exactly why and what I can do to fix the problem. Anyone have this happening? Any suggestions?

Try readjusting it. If it has an automatic tensioner just loosen the bolt the retighten it and it should be adjusted properly. I think you are supposed to have like 3/8" deflection over a 12" area. New belts usually do loosen up after 30 minutes driving.

Did you use a higher quality belt???If it doesn't quite down then check the tensioner to see if it is holding proper tension....

My '99 5.4L started doing this at around 1.000 miles when I started firewalling the pedal for the first time. Dealer changed the belt and found one of the pulleys out of alignment (so they said). Hasn't squealed since.
