Question Head differences

Can anyone tell me if the 4.6l head is the same as the 5.4l head? I'm working on a Windsor engine in a '97 F150 4x4. We've bought exchange heads which have 5.4 stamped in them but the old heads have 4.6 stamped in them, causing some confusion.
Thanks.

5.4 and 4.6 heads are the same

As long as the 5.4 heads are from a windsor 5.4 you will be fine bolting it up

But mid 99 they introduced the "PI" heads which were better flowing and used a different combustion chamber and different pistons. If it is marked "PI" you can still put them on but its suggested you get a custom tune for it and you will gain i think about 20 hp (I think that is what people are getting out of the PI head swaps)

Then as long as they have the same amount of valve cover bolt holes you are good to go (windsor vs romeo)
