I have a knocking noise when i start my engine. it is a 4.6 97 ford it has 42,000 miles on it. am i just out of luck or can i still do something about it i do have somewhat of advantage i took my truck in for
the knocking to a ford service it had 31.694
miles on it! i still have my repair slips where they checked it out. I told the mechanic that it sounded like a cam bearing
or a collapsed lifter he told me! it wouldnt
nothing to worry about that i am hearing the
timing chains making the noise and i was the
first person to ever mention it like i was
just nitpicking. i went to another dealer for
a second opinion and he would never give me a reply he just said every thing is okay now
sense i have checked this site out i realize i am not the only one with this problem! can
anyone tell me how to go about getting something done i will greatly appreciate any
information at all you can give me?

 

Something you can check: what brand and octane gas are you running???

 

THANKS tina but my noise is a piston slap
sorry i left that out when i first start it
cold start it knocks real loud and after it
warms up it fades a way but if you hold the
excelerator down to about 1400 rpm you can
hear it knocking lightly!

 

Do a search of piston slap. There is some good info here, and lots of reading material.
